Marketing proposal template for agencies and freelancers

A marketing proposal explains how you will grow a client's pipeline or brand, which channels you will use, how you will report results and what the work costs each month. Use it when a prospect asks for a plan after the discovery call, when a retainer is up for renewal, or when you pitch a campaign for a launch or a season. The template suits SEO, paid media, social media, content and full-service agencies as well as freelance marketers.

How to fill in the marketing proposal template

The strongest marketing proposals connect every channel to a business goal the client already cares about.

  • Executive summary. Lead with the client's commercial goal, not with your services. Put the monthly fee and the media budget in this section so nobody has to hunt for them.
  • Goals and KPIs. Agree the baseline before you set targets, and name the data source. A target without a baseline cannot be reported honestly.
  • Target audience. Keep it to the buyers who actually sign contracts. A tight audience makes the channel plan easier to defend.
  • Strategy. Write the idea in a few sentences that the client could repeat to their boss. Tactics belong in the channel plan.
  • Channel plan. State monthly deliverables in numbers, such as articles, ads or posts, so the client knows what they get for the retainer.
  • Reporting. Say what you report, how often and in which meeting, which sets expectations from the first month.
  • Pricing. Separate one-time setup, monthly retainers, optional add-ons and media spend. Clients often reject proposals that blur fees and ad budget.
  • Terms. Make ownership of accounts and content explicit. It is the first question procurement asks.

Common mistakes in marketing proposals

  • Promising results you cannot control, such as a fixed ranking position or a guaranteed number of sales.
  • Mixing agency fees and ad spend into one number.
  • A channel list with no monthly deliverables.
  • No baseline, so success is argued about rather than measured.
  • Long agency credentials up front while the client's goal appears on page five.

Marketing proposal template questions

What should a marketing proposal include?

A cover page, an executive summary with the goal and the fees, goals and KPIs with a baseline, the target audience, the strategy, a channel plan with monthly deliverables, a timeline, reporting, a pricing table, terms, next steps and a signature block.

Should ad spend be in the marketing proposal price?

State it in the proposal, but on its own line and outside your fees. Most agencies have the client pay media directly to each platform, which keeps the agency fee and the ad budget clearly separate.

How do I price a marketing retainer?

Price each channel as a monthly line with clear deliverables, add a one-time onboarding fee if setup is significant, and set an initial term. Optional services go on separate lines the client can add.

Can I reuse this template for every client?

Yes. In ProposalCreation you save your channel descriptions, terms and pricing items in the content library once, and the AI adapts them to each new client's goals and audience.
